In March 2016, I was in a car accident and was in need of additional services following my initial Walk-In Clinic visit. My primary care provider (PCP) not only did her due diligence by reviewing my electronic medical record from the date of injury, but also performed another less technical evaluation, asked about my well-being and inquired into my preferences regarding physical therapy and other similar services. And so my journey as a frequent-flyer began.
As one of The Everett Clinic’s teammates, I often heard the term coordinated care. I understood the lingo, but had never truly experienced it. Normally, I am a low-maintenance patient, seeing my PCP maybe once a year for my annual check-up. However, over the next several months I experienced many physical and emotional challenges. When ongoing issues weren’t improving, my PCP referred me to specialty departments for additional studies. We had a mystery to solve! I also utilized MyChart to communicate with my care team, share treatments (such as chiropractic and massage therapy) and achieve more effective care.
Through it all, my PCP was my coach and cheerleader. She consistently asked how treatments were going, discussed what worked and what didn’t and acknowledged improvements.
Now to schedule my annual physical exam.
