S-M-A-R-T Goals for the New Year
A New Year, a healthier you! It’s that time of year again, time for a fresh start, a clean slate. What do you want to do for your health in the coming year? Improve your eating habits? Become more active and energized? Start thinking ahead and plan for your wellness in 2017. The best way to achieve success is to set clear and achievable goals.
S – Specific
Be clear, concise and directed.
M – Measurable
Make sure that for each of your wellness goals there is a way to monitor your progress. If you can’t measure it, it’s hard to measure your success.
For example, if it is one of your goals to become more active, start an activity journal and write down what you did that day. Many of the smart phones we carry today have built-in apps that allow for step tracking.
A – Achievable
Set realistic goals. If they’re unrealistic it will be hard for you to stay motivated and achieve success. Think small. Maybe you want to change your eating habits? Consider making it a goal to make half of your plate at meal time consist of vegetables 1-2 times a week. Once you can meet this achievable goal, expand.
R – Relevant
What is important to you? Your personal goals should reflect what is important to you and your health only.
T – Timely
Keep your goals realistic. Adhere to timeframes that make things manageable and encourage a forward momentum to wellness.
