How to keep active this fall
The morning air is crisp, the days are getting shorter, and the leaves are beginning to transform into vibrant colors of red, orange, and gold. While the summer heat has faded, we can still take advantage of outdoor adventure. Here are some fun-filled activities that will keep you and your family active this fall
Explore parks and trails
Autumn is one of the prettiest times of the year to explore parks and trails. Enjoy the gorgeous canopy of fall foliage when the trees still have most of their leaves. Whether you are planning a bike ride, a run, or a leisure walk, visit your city’s parks and recreation website for places near you!
Go on a hike
Enjoy fall’s incredible colors, weird fungus, and cooler temperatures. Lace up your shoes, pack your favorite trail mix, and enjoy a hike. There are many options whether you seek a leisurely stroll or a more intense terrain. Even walking up and down small inclines helps to strengthen leg and core muscles and improve cardio endurance.
Make it fun
Create a scavenger hunt - collecting objects such as sticks, acorns, and leaves and bring them home as materials for a seasonal craft.
Sign up for community fun runs and events
Local 5k and 10k road races, obstacle course runs, and walk-a-thons can make fitness enjoyable and support charitable causes. Check your local community for themed runs and events during the autumn months. Be safe if you are training outdoors. Wear reflective clothing, carry a flashlight, and have a workout buddy.
Visit the pumpkin patch or an orchard
Visit a farm near you to hunt for the perfect pumpkin, pick fresh apples, or get lost in a corn maze!
You may be excited about pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pies, and pumpkin carving contests, but this fruit of autumn (yes, pumpkin is a fruit) is also jam-packed with nutrition, natural antioxidants, and vitamins. Pumpkins make a yummy meal or snack.
Apples are at their best during this time of year and are high in fiber and nutrients like vitamin C, calcium, potassium, and folic acid. Eat them as is or test your culinary skills with some healthy apple recipes!
