Angelique Berens, MD
"Listening and communication are the most crucial pieces of the patient/physician relationship."
Dr. Angelique M. Berens began a career in medicine motivated by her years in the lab working on cancer research. Dr. Berens used fluorescent labeled molecules to understand the location and timing of genes that contribute to the formation of cancer. She left full time research for medical school to continue her work with clinical trials of novel cancer drugs from benchtop studies to human clinical trials.
While in medical school, Dr Berens continued to be involved in research and clinical education. Clinical rotations showed her that the surgical treatment of cancer would be her career path. Along the way her desire to serve patients in need locally and internationally was furthered refined when she was sent as a to the Middle East for a medical ambassador program within her medical school in Detroit, Michigan.
After graduating from medical school Dr. Berens matched into the prestigious Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of Washington. During her 6 years of residency she spent 16 months dedicated to NIH funded research focusing on surgical planning software for minimally invasive approaches to the skull base, 3D printing ribs to allows for surgical rehearsal of complex carving procedures for ear reconstruction, robotic surgery concept project for NASA and curriculum development with the ACGME. Dr. Berens’ surgical training refined her interest to cancer treatment through advanced microvascular surgical reconstruction.
Dr. Berens then traded her hiking boots for a surf board and traveled to University of California – Los Angeles to learn about facial plastic and reconstructive surgery from international experts across the field. She was invited to be a Clinical Instructor at UCLA during her fellowship training program. During her one-year Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellow at UCLA she mastered advanced reconstruction in the academic setting and refined her aesthetic technique aspect in Beverly Hills.
After fellowship Dr. Berens joined The Everett Clinic to build her practice a fill a need for advance reconstruction in the area. Her practice focusses on advanced head and neck cancer treatment, treatment of sinus and nasal breathing issues, and aesthetic surgery for the aging face. This marriage of her medical education and surgical training over a decade has given her the distinguished ability to; surgically treat cancer while reconstructing head and neck structures to optimal form and function, provide comprehensive sinonasal care for patients who require a rhinoplasty with their sinus surgery, rejuvenate the mature face holistically with use of injectables when appropriate and full surgical transformation with custom designed surgery when needed using a combination of facelift, neck lift, minimally invasive brow lift, cheek lift, and lip lift.
