John McGuigan, PhD
“In a personal way, I want to step into the patient's shoes and hear their story.”
You can begin to make behavior changes today that will improve brain function and physical and emotional well being. I am here to help come up with a plan to help you make these life changes. I see the counseling process as involving both gathering some insight and taking a lot of action.
Dr. McGuigan is primarily a cognitive-behavior therapist, which involves looking at patterns of thinking and behavior that are potentially both helpful and self-defeating. He emphasizes a caring and supportive relationship, while maintaining a solution-focused approach. He firmly believes that these patterns can begin to change today, resulting in improved brain function and psychological and emotional well-being.
Dr. McGuigan works with adults, seniors and teens 16 and older, addressing a wide range of issues including adjustment, mood problems and addiction. He specializes in chronic pain management and adjustment to stroke, traumatic brain injury and other chronic illnesses. He worked as a counselor for nearly 20 years in a variety of clinical settings prior to becoming a licensed psychologist in 2009. Dr. McGuigan's past experience includes consulting work for Providence Regional Medical Center Everett and the State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Why The Everett Clinic?
I knew providers who worked at The Everett Clinic and who always professed it was a great place to work. Now that I work here, I love that there is strong leadership and a vision for the future.
