Rejuvenate your skin and halt the signs of aging
A Stanford study shows that use of intense pulse light (IPL), also known as broadband light (BBL) can literally turn back the clock. Patients' age was estimated by blinded expert reviewers. Photos from the beginning of the study showed an estimated age of 46. Photos after 9 years of treatment showed an estimated age of 45. The means that patients, on average, did not display any signs of aging, even after 9 years.
To obtain these results, patients were treated every 3-4 months. Treatment takes about 15-30 minutes with no downtime and the discomfort level is commonly described as a rubber band snap.
IPL and BBL are not technically lasers, but they share many of the same characteristics as lasers and are often described together. Lasers come in ablative (controlled heat damage to the skin that improves appearance by regrowth of epidermis and superficial dermis) and non-ablative (certain wavelengths of light target problem areas of skin, such as pigment and redness). IPL and BBL are non-ablative and therefore have shorter downtimes. These non-ablative laser can target skin problems more specifically, which minimizing damage to the surrounding skin. IPL and BBL are used to decrease the appearance of fine wrinkles, unwanted pigment, redness and elastosis.
IPL and BBL can be used over the entire body. These treatments are very popular for the neck, chest, hands and lower arms to help reverse the pigment changes with sun exposure and aging.
